Retainers

After braces comes retention. At The Braces Place, retainers are worn for a minimum of 24 months to hold your result — including the Forgiver™ retainer designed by Dr. Rizkallah — because your final orthodontic result depends on wearing them.

The basics

Retention keeps your new smile in place

When we remove your braces, we will begin the retention stage of your treatment. The retention phase lasts for a minimum of 24 months. Your final orthodontic result depends on your retainers, so follow through with the hard work you’ve put in so far. Remember to remove your retainer before brushing, and brush your retainer before placing it back in your mouth.

Our own design

“Forgiver™” Retainers

The “Forgiver™” Retainer is a clear, comfortable retainer that acts as both a retainer AND a night guard.

Made from durable, clear, thermoplastic, the “Forgiver™” Retainer is virtually indestructible and is likely to last for over a decade.

The “Forgiver™” Retainer was designed by our very own Dr. Rizkallah. Dr. Riz created this design in response to the need for a retainer that is flexible enough to fit into your mouth even if you are not perfect about wearing your retainers as prescribed.

The “Forgiver™” Retainer is made in our lab at Orthodontics at Davis Square within 24 hours. So you will not experience a delay in getting your retainer when your orthodontics treatment is complete OR if you simply lose your retainer.

Keep it working

Retainer care & maintenance

Retainer Care

Wear your retainers for 2-3 months full time (remove them only to eat and to brush your teeth). Then wear your retainer at night only, as long as the teeth are relatively stable during the day.

Retainer Maintenance

  • Clean your retainer at least once a week with Retainer Brite or Efferdent (available for purchase from Orthodontics at Davis Square or any pharmacy).
  • Do NOT put your retainer in hot water (Heat will warp your retainer).
  • Do NOT brush your retainer with toothpaste (It will create a mineral buildup).
  • Do NOT lose your retainer (teeth WILL shift)!
